In the context of the Church Renewal Programme of the Kerala Catholic Church, the PAROC, under the auspices of Kerala Catholic Bishop’s Council, conducts a study on the formation in the major seminaries in Kerala. This project is planned in the context of the urgency of updating and renewing the formative strategies according to fast-changing socio-economic-cultural-ecclesial scenarios. Ratio Fundamentalis (2016) instructs us to form adequate pedagogies in the seminary according to the context from where the seminarians come. The project has the following objectives: A General survey of the structure, facilities, programmes, strength (of students, staff, etc.) and environment, of the Major Seminaries in Kerala; A critical analysis and evaluation of the formative pedagogies in the Major Seminaries. Are they effective in forming priests responding to the needs of the time and Church?, Identify the Good Practices and important challenges and constraints faced by candidates, formators and ecclesial leadership in the priestly formation of seminarians in Kerala. The study aims at proposing some pedagogical, methodological, structural strategies useful for improving the formation of Major Seminarians in the Kerala Catholic Church.
